The civil wedding ceremony was something that I never thought that I would experience and it felt like I was living in a scene from a movie. We were privileged to be able to get the best of both worlds for it was fun to get to celebrate the event with all of our family and friends on one day and to remember its value and significance with close family on its own separate sacred day. ~ Ally
Our funniest memory of the wedding ceremony was when we exchanged rings. When our ring-bearer, Pietro (Ally's cousin's son), brought us our rings we had never taken into account how similar the two rings were to each other in size. When I was placing Ally's ring on her finger, we realized that it was, in fact, my ring. We began laughing in front of our guests who probably couldn't see what was going on. We love the pictures of this moment. ~ Stefano
Want to laugh? The story of our first night as husband and wife is a funny one to tell. After most of our friends and family left our reception, Stefano and I were driven home to our apartment. We decided to have some fun and we went on a walk up and down the streets of the city in our wedding clothes. Many people honked their horns and yelled out cheers of congratulation. We had fun with all the attention that we got. When we returned back home, Stefano was still hoping that he might be able to stay the night with me. According to Italian Church conduct, it is alright to spend the first night married together even if you still hadn't been to the Temple. To Stefano there was nothing wrong with this custom, but, for me, it was too foreign and it just didn't feel right. I came from the American Church mentality where Temple weddings are recognized as legal, thus allowing the first real night as husband and wife to be after the Temple Sealing. Stefano completely understood and respected my position, but he still tried to find a way to not have to go back home to his parents who would have wondered what was going on. In the end, Stefano regretfully returned to his parents' home to sleep that night. Poor boy!
